My life is becoming increasingly regimented.  On top of the necessary academic and writing schedule, I now have an OG&E schedule.  (yeah, just like PG&E, but it’s Oklahoma<\/i> Gas & Electric).  I’ve signed up for “Smart Hours” … cheaper rate during offpeak times, more expensive from 2pm till 7pm;  Now laundry, etc., has to be scheduled.  <\/i>Probably going to sign up for wind power also, once I find out how it works.<\/p>\n

In fact, I cannot complain about OG&E.  Power on, no issues, bill timely, can do it all online.  Unlike gas company (no gas, ergo no hot water, for a week) or AT&T; ATT&T dropped to lower ring of hell because they should<\/i> have given me a backup battery with the modem (no power = no modem = no phone line; of course the no power<\/i> is OG&E’s fault now that I think about it).  Called to fix that today, and they told me Incidentally,<\/i> we have detected service fluctuations in the routine test we carried out (as I was on the phone regarding the modem<\/b> issue), so the technician will check that when he brings the battery pack… and you will have to pay<\/b> $99 if the problem is with your residence.<\/p>\n

WHAT?!?!?  I’ve just paid<\/i> $199 to get Internet + land-line installed (yes, only two weeks ago), and the technician <\/i>said (“said”) that he had rewired everything.  This is reminding me of mechanics and cars.  Especially since after<\/i> the call this morning we’ve had noticeably spotty service for the first time.<\/p>\n

This after I had to pay the $75 AHS call fee to the plumber who changed the faucets in my laundry closet; they “passed” the inspection, but as soon as I touched them started spewing water everywhere, causing an apparent slab leak (it was just<\/i> the faucet runoff) and flooding my walk-in closet.  Closet only just now drying out.  And I couldn’t change the damn faucets (even after I figured out how to pry open the water gauge access and turn off the water with a very inefficient wrench) because they were soldered<\/i> on and probably had been since the house was built in 1977.

But the locals lead me to understand that I shouldn’t be complaining about utility costs, since in a normal<\/i> summer we’d be spending three times as much on cooling.  It reached 90F today, but this weekend we biked 6 miles around noon, and it’s been cool and wet.  Normally,<\/i> I am told, it is over 100, dry brown grass everywhere.<\/div>\n
