Lat night I thought I knew how to insert videos in Qualtrics. I have inserted many videos over the last few years, so it was a reasonable assumption. Then I discovered my “old way” didn’t work. Not sure why, but I am going to show the “old” way (which should work) as well as the HTML workaround.
The basics
Create a new question. Select Descriptive Text. Go to the Rich Content Editor
The old way to insert videos that doesn’t work today (but may in the future)
Before you could simply click on the video icon (see below) and copy-paste a link from Youtube or elseweb. You can also upload video files to Qualtrics, but I have found it much simpler to use Youtube. Sometimes you can use videos that are already available (make sure you are not violating any copyright). Sometimes you will want to create and upload your own videos to a Youtube channel. I have done both.
Using HTML to insert videos does work
Fortunately it is possible to embed videos with HTML code. You can copy this directly from Youtube (choose “Embedd”; all steps shown with pictures below). You can do this from the Rich text Editor or by clicking on the HTML tab to the right.
In Youtube, just click on “Embed: and copy the code. If you want to adjust the height and width, you can tweak the code (where it says width and height).
And voila, it works 😉
